Repiping for older homes

North & Home Plumbing replaces old galvanised steel and failing pipework in Queenslanders and older homes across Brisbane’s inner east with modern copper or PEX pipe.

When does a house need repiping?

Many older Brisbane homes, including Queenslanders and post-war houses, still have galvanised steel water pipes. Over decades these corrode from the inside, which narrows the pipe, lowers water pressure, discolours the water and causes repeat leaks.

Repiping replaces the old lines with copper or PEX. In raised homes the work is often done from underneath, which keeps disruption low. The plumber can replace the whole home or only the worst sections, and quotes each option.

When to call us

  • Homes with old galvanised steel water pipes
  • Low pressure that has got worse over the years
  • Brown or rusty water when taps are first turned on
  • Repeat leaks in different parts of the house

What to expect

  1. 01

    Pipe inspection

We check the pipe type, condition and the route under or through the house.

  2. 02

    Written quote

A fixed price for whole-home or part repiping, with the work plan and timing.

  3. 03

    Replace the lines

New pipe is run and connected section by section, keeping water off for as little time as possible.

  4. 04

    Pressure test

The new system is pressure tested, flushed and checked at every tap.

What happens after repiping?

You may notice air in the lines for a day or two as the system settles, which clears by running each tap. Water pressure is usually higher, so we may fit a pressure limiting valve to protect your fixtures.

Common questions

Part repiping can be done in a day. Whole-home repiping usually takes one to three days, depending on the size of the house and access.
